The Hurt and The Healer

I needed to hear this song again tonight.  To let the request made in the lyrics be the spoken plea of my heart.  Jesus, come and take my fears.  Awake my heart and take my tears...I'm alive, even though a part of me has died...Breathe, sometimes it seems all that I can do is breathe...

The words of this song have become my daily prayers.

I've seen the Lord's hand in my life so many times in the past few months, and I've felt His presence giving me peace.  Tonight I felt his strength give me self-control that I didn't know I had.  And tonight I'm praying for Jesus to do the same in someone else's life...to make the hurt and the Healer collide.

Someone Like You

I have a love/hate relationship with this song in general.  I love the melody, but I hate the words and what it makes me think of.

However, I love, love, love this video of a two year old singing it.

I was at school at the very uncharacteristic of me hour of 6:45AM (and coincidentally, I was there until 6:45PM, too), so as I walked up the hall to my room, I was a tad out of it.  The artwork I saw on the wall, however, caused me to giggle, turn around, and take a picture.
The thought going through my mind was, Someone's not quite ready for swimsuit season

This is the very reason I don't wear a bikini! :)

A sweet little comment

Today one of my sweet ESOL boys came up to me, opened his arms, and said, "Gimme some sugar."

I'm not sure where he got this from, but I think something was lost in translation.  I answered, "Honey, I'm not sure you know what you're asking for.  Remember how we learned about idioms?  'Gimme some sugar' is a southern idiom.  Here in Georgia it means 'Give me a kiss.'"

You should've seen his face.  He settled for a hug instead. :)

A lesson learned

Yesterday my toes were stepped on three times, all by students not behaving like they should. The third time, I said something to the class. In response, a boy said to me very seriously, "I think we can learn something from this."

I thought he was going to add to my point and add that we shouldn't play around in line or something like that.

But no.

"Maybe," he says, "you shouldn't wear sandals anymore."

Sigh.  But maybe he's on to something.  Anyone know where I can find a cute pair of steel-toed boots?

16 letters

16 letters.  That's all that survived my master's program.  I knew completing my online degree would be a lot of wear and tear on my schedule and my life, but I had no idea the effect it would have on my computer's keyboard.
As I've typed over the last 20 months, I've watched the letters slowly disappear. I considered getting a new keyboard or using whiteout to add new letters, but thought this would be a more interesting experiment since I never look at my fingers anyway.

Now only 16 letters remain fully in tact.  If you look carefully, D, S, and C are falling to pieces. E looks like an I. F is but a corner.  R is in rapid decline. M looks like it's having an identity crisis.  G, V, and N...I'll miss you.

But I don't have to look at my missing letters to be able to type this: I'm DONE!! :)

K's visit

My sister and her husband just returned to Germany after a two week visit. Unfortunately, they were unable to be here over my spring break like they usually do, but it was great to see them and to get to spend the time together that we did.  We celebrated K's birthday a few weeks early by lunch at the Chophouse Grille in Madison, and we went out shopping a few times, too.
In Madison at their lovely downtown park area.

I can't for the life of me figure out why K ate chili before her 10 hour flight. Poor Dennis. :)
